First let me say I appreciate that they could get to me on the same day, but, demanding to be paid in full for the next visit which would have been to actually repair my oven in full 100% for parts and service is a bit much. Asking to be paid for parts in advance I can see, but definitely not asking for payment for services and labor not yet performed. I hired a contractor once who wanted $500 in advance for supplies- Nope! You make a list and I'll go get it. Appliance repair people that's a little different. I've ordered parts and paid for parts to be ordered in advance but absolutely definitely will not pay someone in full nor part for services or work, labor not yet performed. If you don't do it to my satisfaction I'm stuck because you've already got my money.
Knowledgeable? The tech tried. I had already Googled the problem and had the same three possible problems from multiple websites. After a lengthy time checking everything but the last of the three possible problems and three phone calls later, together they decided what it was. After receiving the estimate for the next appointment I paid for the service call only and declined any future appointments for them to repair my range. I ordered the part from Frigidaire, had it overnighted and fixed my range on my own. The tech was pleasant and friendly, just obviously new which we have all been at one time. And yes, the part fixed the problem.
Demanding full payment up front for labor and/ or services up front that hasn't been scheduled nor completed yet? Definitely the straw that broke the camels back and the #1 reason I won't use again.
