Our Data, and How to Correct It
Last updated: 2026-07-16
Every listing on this site is compiled data, and compiled data can be wrong. This page explains where our data comes from, what our verification checks do and do not mean, and how to get a listing corrected or removed. We built the correction process to be fast because we would rather fix an error than defend one.
Where listing data comes from
We compile each listing from three kinds of public sources:
- The store's own public website. Name, address, phone, hours, brands carried, and the store's logo come from pages the store itself publishes. We collect these the way any visitor would: by reading the public pages, without accounts or logins.
- Public records and public directories. State business registries and public mapping data, used to confirm that a business exists and that its address matches what its website says.
- The store's public business profile. Obtained through licensed third-party data services: the profile identifier we use for matching and re-checking, the attributed Google rating where one is shown, and the storefront photo where one is available (loaded directly from the public profile, never copied or re-hosted). Details are on the Methodology page.
Each field on a listing shows its source and the date we last checked it. We re-check on a rolling schedule, and any correction request triggers an immediate re-check.
What the verification checks mean
Each listing carries a verification tier (verified, attributed, or unverified) and a dated check tally. These come from dated, factual checks, each disclosed on our Methodology page:
- Website check: the store's website was live and served the listed information on the date shown.
- Address check: the listed address matched public mapping data on the date shown.
- Registry check: a matching business record appeared in the state business registry on the date shown.
- Consistency check: the store's name, address, and phone matched across the sources we checked.
What a tier is: our evaluation of the listing data, based on those disclosed checks, on those dates. It reflects how well the data we compiled held up when we checked it.
What a tier is not: a statement about the business itself. A "verified" tier does not mean the store is licensed, insured, reputable, or currently open, and an "unverified" tier does not mean anything is wrong with the store; it usually means we could not complete a check, often for reasons as ordinary as a website redesign. The tiers are our opinion of the data, and we publish the checks behind that opinion so you can weigh it yourself.
Request a correction
If any field in a listing is wrong or outdated, tell us using the correction form.
Include the listing URL, the field that is wrong, and the correct value. If you represent the store, say so; a link to the store's own page showing the correct value gets the fix applied fastest.
What happens next, and when:
- We acknowledge every request within 2 business days.
- For factual fields we can re-check against public sources (address, phone, hours, website, brands), we re-run the checks and update the listing within 10 business days, usually much sooner. The re-check also updates the verification tier, the check tally, and the shown check dates.
- If our re-check disagrees with the request, we reply and say what we found and where. You can respond with better evidence; a store's own current website beats a stale record every time.
Request removal
If you own or represent a listed store and want the listing removed, use the same form and say so. We confirm you control the store (a reply from the store's own email domain, or a note on the store's website, is enough), then remove the listing within 10 business days. We do not charge for corrections or removals, and being listed never requires payment.
If we got something badly wrong
A correction request is also how you tell us a listing harmed you: wrong closure status, a mixed-up business, anything you consider damaging. Flag it as urgent in the form. Urgent requests are checked first, and if we cannot re-verify the disputed field immediately, we suppress it from the listing while we check.
