I’ve shopped at this RONA for many years. It’s small, convenient, independently owned, and I’ve never had any issues. I’m a low maintenance customer and never make a fuss — but yesterday’s experience is worth sharing.
I purchased six patio stones in total — four 24x24 slabs and two larger rectangular ones. As always, the service inside the store was excellent. Jeff was great, as usual. After paying, I was directed to the back to pick up the stones. In the past, staff have always loaded them into my vehicle and usually insist I don’t help.
Yesterday was different.
A younger employee came out to assist. He had a bit of an attitude — maybe a bad day, maybe just not suited for customer service. He showed me where the stones were. He struggled with the larger rectangular stones, so I ended up helping him and guiding him on how to lift and place his side properly so they wouldn’t drop into the trunk.
Then, with the 24x24 slabs — which aren’t that heavy — he could barely carry them. Instead of placing them gently into the trunk, he set one on the edge of the interior and pushed it in, scratching the inside of the car. Immediately after, he walked off to check his phone, noticed the battery had died, and loudly yelled the F word. He apologized, but at that point I just wanted to leave. He said he was “trying to be somewhat professional.”
This was the first time I’ve ever had a negative experience at this location. The store staff inside continue to be excellent, but the yard service yesterday was disappointing and well below the standard I’ve come to expect.
